The Royal
Marines Association Concert Band (RMACB) was formed in May 2006 with the
approval of the Commandant General Royal Marines and Principal Director of
Music. For a complete history of how we started, please read Paddy's excellent
article 'A band is Born'.
The band has gone from strength to strength under the direction of its Director
of Music, Capt. Ted Whealing and
the effort and support of its members.
Many of the band members are former Royal Marines
musicians who have settled in the Portsmouth/Hampshire area after completing
their service - although some travel down as far afield as Deal and Newbury to
attend rehearsals. The band has grown significantly into 'staff band'
proportions with a complement of some of the best musicians the RM band service
has ever had. At the time of writing the leader and Solo Clarinet is
Malcolm
Kennard a former clarinet professor at the Royal Marines School of Music;
the trumpet section is equally supported and led by
Jon Yates,
currently the trumpet professor at the Royal Marines Schools of Music. With
members such as these, the RMACB has built a reputation of being the premier
veteran's concert band in the UK.
Please take the time to look around the website and we hope you find
